South Africa 5G Mobile Network unequivocal Information.
In 2017 ICASA Independent communication authority of
South Africa organize meeting for 5g frequency spectrum band auction and to
decide strategy for 5G network development for country. In September 2018 ICASA decide to
auction for 700MHz, 800MHz and 2.6GHz
for mobile service but date has not been declared and in October 2018, 3.5 GHz
spectrum allotted for 5G services but auction date is not fixed.
MTN
and Ericsson join hand to start 5g network at South Africa. They have build
trail site at Midrand near Johannesburg. They are doing test on 28GHz frequency
band, Ericsson provides host /access point for 5g new radio millimeter wave
high caliber antenna while Intel 5G mobile platform act as a client which
connect to 5G network.
RAIN
partner with Nokia for 5g roll out at South Africa. They start building 5G site from beginning of
2019. Commercial available after second quarter as 5G smartphone gadgets will
be available at that time. Nokia will develop 5G WI-Fi network communication
site at Western, Northern & Eastern Cape, Kwa-zulu, Natal and
Mangaung. This use Nokia 5G infrastructure
called AirScale radio access which includes AirScale base station, High caliber
antenna with massive MIMO, cloud RAN, airframe and Wi-Fi controller.
Vodacom
has
initiated 5G services for limited customer from august 2018 at Lesotho using
3.5GHz band offer 700Mbps download speed, 100 Mbps upload speed and 9ms latency.
Yet fully commercial services has not started as they are deploying network.
They also tested live sport using VR Video. Vodacom also have large fiber
network for high speed broadband.
